LEPE. EL PESCANTE. SAN MARCOS
LEPE: This peculiar setting with its small streets and homes surrounded by arable plots of land leaves no visitor indifferent. In 1680 it already had 23 inhabitants and 6 homes and it was known as Casas de Lo de Lepe. From the plaza de Leoncio Bento, to reach Lepe we only have to follow the GR-132 signs toward Hermigua.
EL PESCANTE:The route starts at Leoncio Bento plaza at Callejón de La Seda. The first 300 metres coincide with GR-132, until it separates at El Transportador road. It continues along the road until reaching La Verdura, where the path leading to the coast starts. The pillars of the gangway remain, silent witnesses of what used to be the symbol of Agulo’s development.
SAN MARCOS: Following the main street you will reach the town’s cemetery, the trail to the coast starts about 40 metres farther on, where you will find cement steps. Walking among tabaibas and some palm trees, the trail leads to Plan de Gallego, which has excellent vistas of Barranco La Piedra Gorda and of the steep ridges of Montaña del Cepo. Toward the ocean the hermitage can be seen and the San Marcos coast, which can be reached by following the cobblestone path.
